Your home has many drains that could potentially clog: kitchen sinks, bathroom sinks, and bathtubs. You may have unwisely dumped grease, failed to use a drain catch, or maybe even had a child put soap down the drain again. Try these easy procedures to unclog drains in your home with some items you may have lying around the house.
Baking Soda and Vinegar
Like the classic science fair volcano, you can pour a ½ cup of baking soda down the drain, then add a ½ cup of vinegar. The minor chemical reaction these two components creates can loosen up or dissolve whatever is blocking your drain. Follow up by pouring some hot, nearly boiling water to clean up, and your drain should be working beautifully.
Salt and Hot Water
Pour a ½ cup of salt down the clogged drain and follow it with 2 liters of nearly boiling water. This may take a few rounds, but it’s an easy, natural way to remove soap buildup and grease.
Plunger
Sometimes, an object or lump of objects stick in your drain. Like your toilet, a flat-cupped plunger can remove them. Add some water to the sink and plunge like you normally would. If it is loose enough, the clog will come right out.
